Read OHA overseas and the Germany page.
Housing allowance
- Off base, the allowance is OHA, not BAH.
- It pays rent up to the lease or the ceiling, whichever is less.
- See the rates table for your pay grade.
- Source: DTMO OHA Rate Lookup.
The information paper says assignment on post is mandatory.
- The policy stays in effect until occupancy reaches 95 percent.
- If family housing is not projected within 60 days, a certificate of non-availability is issued.
- If a unit in your category and bedroom size is open, you get the next quarters.
- A certificate is not issued while those quarters are available within 60 days.
The housing questions add rank rules.
- A certificate is issued only when occupancy is above 95 percent.
- Bona fide bachelors in grade E-7 and above may live off post.
- E-7 and above on an unaccompanied tour may be paid at the with-dependents rate. They must use senior bachelor quarters when those quarters are open.
- E-1 through E-6 must live in the barracks.
- A garrison-commander certificate for those grades needs occupancy of 95 percent or above.
- OHA, a utility allowance, and a one-time move-in allowance apply when off-post housing is allowed.
An August 2019 housing booklet is still on the garrison site. It describes a choice between government housing and government-leased housing. The information paper and the housing questions state the mandatory policy. Ask the office which document it is using.
On-base housing
Every government-controlled family unit is treated as adequate.
- Prompt assignment is used so units are not left vacant.
- An exception request does not keep temporary lodging allowance running while it is pending.
- Ask finance for the TLA amount.
