Housing allowance
- OHA pays rent up to the lease or the ceiling, whichever is less.
- People in government-leased quarters do not draw OHA.

The USAG Benelux-Brunssum housing page says there is no government housing on base.
- Government-leased quarters are on the economy.
- They are about a 30-minute drive from Brunssum.
- Assignment is mandatory for all ranks when a unit is available.
- Accompanied members of all grades stay assigned until occupancy is 100 percent.
- If no unit is free within 30 days, the office issues a certificate of non-availability.
- You may then take a private lease.
- Rent and utilities in government-leased quarters are paid. Those quarters do not pay OHA.
- A private lease pays OHA.
Unaccompanied E-1 to E-6 live in single-soldier quarters.
- Those quarters are apartments on the economy, not a barracks.
- If none is free within 30 days, the office issues a temporary statement of non-availability.
The housing office is building 8.

- The lease is in English and includes military clauses.
- Homes can be smaller than U.S. houses, with narrow stairs.
- A common large bedroom is 15 by 12 feet.
- King-size and queen-size beds may not fit.
- Leave large appliances in storage in the United States.
- The office issues a European washer, dryer, range, refrigerator, and dishwasher for the tour.
Temporary lodging allowance is paid in 15-day increments.
- Review at least five houses a week.
- Keep a record of the visits.

Government-leased homes are on the Allied Forces Northern Europe school bus route.

Before you sign
- Report to the housing office before you sign.
- A private lease needs a certificate of non-availability.
- Ask whether a government-leased unit is projected within 30 days.
- Those quarters do not pay OHA.
- Confirm the locality with the housing office. Brunssum and Schinnen share it.
- Unaccompanied E-1 to E-6: ask about single-soldier quarters first.
