U.S. Army Garrison Benelux handles U.S. housing for Chievres.

It also covers members at SHAPE who are not in SHAPE Village. SHAPE Village is a different locality.

Housing allowance

• OHA pays rent up to the lease or the ceiling, whichever is less.
• See the rates table for your pay grade.
• Do not use the SHAPE Village table for a Chievres lease.

The USAG Benelux-SHAPE/Chievres housing page lists three housing types.

• Government-leased housing.
• Private rental housing.
• SHAPE Village. For the United States, that is a private rental.
• The garrison housing office does not manage SHAPE Village.
• The SHAPE International Housing Office in building 210 assigns it.
• The U.S. housing office is building 209.
• Ask that office which locality matches the lease.

Pay-grade rules on the same page:

• Housing for E-7 to E-9, and for officers, is not available.
• Those grades get a certificate of non-availability for the local economy.
• Officer family housing is only for key and essential jobs SACEUR has approved.
• Unaccompanied E-6 and below use the barracks when a room is open.
• Unaccompanied E-1 through E-6 get no TLA if a barracks room is open.
• If barracks space is not open, a certificate of non-availability comes first.

All U.S. personnel contact the U.S. housing office within 48 hours of arrival.

• A deposit of up to two months of rent is typical.
• In the Brussels region, three months is typical.
• In-processing at housing is by appointment.
• Briefings are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 a.m.

Temporary lodging allowance is authorized in 15-day increments, not to exceed 60 days.

• The housing page says 90 percent of personnel find housing within 30 days.

Furnishings

• Do not ship stoves, refrigerators, washers, dryers, or waterbeds.
• Loaner furniture is available for up to 90 days after you move in.
• It is also available for 60 days before household goods ship out.
• The furnishings office issues a washer, dryer, range, refrigerator, and dishwasher if the quarters lack them.
