U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart is the housing office for the Stuttgart Military Community. Ramstein uses a different locality.

Housing allowance

• OHA pays rent up to the lease or the ceiling, whichever is less.
• See the rates table for your pay grade.

The USAG Stuttgart housing page covers who lives on post.

• Accompanied service members follow the Army in Europe on-post assignment policy.
• Unaccompanied E-6 and below, of any branch, must live in the barracks.
• Unaccompanied E-7 and above should ask about bachelor quarters.
• Adequate barracks space may not be projected within 60 days. Then the office issues a certificate of non-availability for off-post housing.
• Do not start an off-post search before the office says you are eligible.
• The off-post referral office will not help until in-processing is done.
• A lease is negotiated through that process.
• An Army advance, through the unit personnel office with the signed contract, can cover the first month of rent.
• It can also cover a security deposit that typically equals two months of rent.

In-processing with housing must be done within 30 days of arrival, or of command sponsorship.

• That keeps the eligibility date from the last duty station.
• After 30 days, the waiting-list date is the application date.
• The housing in-brief is Tuesdays and Thursdays.
• Email orders and a completed DD Form 1746 to [email protected].
• The office is building 2913 on Panzer Kaserne.

Temporary lodging allowance is reviewed in 15-day increments.

• Members required to live on post must check the wait list weekly.
• To stay on TLA after a certificate of non-availability, show three homes in the first 15 days.
• Then show six homes in each later 15-day period.

What not to ship

• Unaccompanied members should not ship the full household-goods weight.
• Barracks rooms will not hold it.
• Storage after arrival is at the member's expense.
• Ask the transportation office for the weight allowance.

Before you sign

• Email orders and DD Form 1746, then attend the housing in-brief, before you sign.
• Ask whether an on-post or barracks unit is projected within 60 days.
• Keep the in-processing appointment inside 30 days of arrival if you want the earlier eligibility date.
