Housing allowance

• OHA pays rent up to the lease or the ceiling, whichever is less.
• A certificate of non-availability is required before a private rental.
• The on-post office issues it.

The Wiesbaden public works page says mandatory assignment to government-controlled housing is in effect for service members.

The off-post housing page covers the search.

• All personnel on PCS orders must report within 48 hours of arrival.
• Do not sign a rental contract, written or verbal, before the housing brief and in-processing.
• The page says there is adequate private housing in the Wiesbaden area.
• Listings are on HOMES.mil under USAG Wiesbaden.

On-base housing

The Army family housing page describes two areas.

• Walk-up apartments are on Clay Kaserne.
• Duplexes and single-family homes are in Newman Village.
• The neighborhood depends on availability and the current unit designation.
• Waiting for a preferred neighborhood can jeopardize temporary lodging allowance.
• It can also remove a family from the wait list.

Two pages disagree on who those neighborhoods are for. Ask which list is current.

• The Clay Kaserne and Newman Village page says senior NCOs, officers, and their families.
• The Army family housing page says junior enlisted, senior NCOs, officers, and their families.

The Clay Kaserne page lists the office.

• Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:15 a.m. to noon and 12:45 p.m. to 4 p.m.
• Closed on U.S. federal and German holidays.

Before you sign

• Ask which neighborhood rules are current before you wait for one area.
