PPM moves

A personally procured move, or PPM, is a move you arrange yourself. People also call it a DITY move, for do-it-yourself. Military OneSource’s page Conducting a Personally Procured Move says you use it to decide whether a PPM fits your family, to see ways to transport household goods, to request temporary storage, to book the move, and to submit expenses for reimbursement.

Where the official steps live

  • The Moving Your Personal Property page describes the Defense Personal Property Program. That program provides moving and storage for War Department and Coast Guard personnel and their families.
  • Schedule, track, or file a claim in the Defense Personal Property System. OneSource says you log in with a Common Access Card or a user ID and password.
  • OneSource links a personally procured moves fact sheet on defense.gov. Read that sheet for operator warnings and the current process. This page does not copy a payment rate or a weight limit from it.
  • You still need official orders before you schedule a move. That point is on the PCS basics article.

A government-arranged shipment and a PPM can be combined only in the way the personal property office allows. Ask that office, and use DPS, rather than a percentage you saw somewhere else.
