Yokota AB

Yokota Air Base is in Fussa, in the Tokyo area. Military OneSource gives the town as Fussa. The Air Force housing page says the Tokyo area and Yokota use 100-volt, 50-hertz electricity. This page is for service members of any branch assigned there. The rates table prints rental ceilings, the utility allowance, and MIHA from the DTMO OHA Rate Lookup.

1. Housing: OHA, not BAH

Off base, housing money is Overseas Housing Allowance. DTMO reimburses rent up to the lease or the allowance, whichever is less. Check current rate on the DTMO OHA Rate Lookup after the housing office confirms the locality.

The housing page says accompanied members must report to the military housing office no later than 48 hours, meaning two business days, after arrival. Apply with DD Form 1746 sent to [email protected], with PCS orders. A walk-in within 30 days of arrival can be dated to the day you left the last installation. After 30 days, the date is the walk-in date.

It says members on TLA must accept the first adequate unit offered, or TLA stops on the date of the offer. It does not print a TLA amount. Check current rate with finance.

Do not ship a washer, dryer, refrigerator, or stove. The furniture office provides those, and loaner furniture for up to 90 days or until household goods arrive. The page says quarters are small, there is no on-base storage for extra household goods, and you cannot ship leftovers back to the United States for non-temporary storage after you arrive. It encourages people not to ship the full weight allowance. No weight is printed here. Check current rate with the transportation office.

2. Government housing and the office

Government housing is garden and tower units. The page says the on-base-first policy was replaced on 4 October 2012 by housing assignment procedures, and that living on base when a unit is adequate is still required. This page quotes that current housing page. It does not have a separate copy of the 2012 memo.

The office phone is DSN 315-225-3252. The commercial number is 81-425-52-2510, then extension 53252 after the second dial tone. Email [email protected]. Hours on that page are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Japan time.

Pet rules on the housing page: garden units, and the first three floors of designated towers, allow up to two dogs and/or cats in total. A pet-friendly tower is not guaranteed. The page says waiting for one can stop TLA. It points to a Yokota pet restriction for breeds. This page does not copy that breed list. Read the page, then ask the office.

Unaccompanied rules on the housing page are written for the Air Force. It says E-1 through E-6 are assigned on-base unaccompanied housing, and that unaccompanied officers, E-7 through E-9, and civilian equivalents live off base. Dorm rooms are described as 250 to 578 square feet, furnished with linens, a microwave, and a refrigerator. Another service should ask the office what applies. While waiting for a dorm, the page says 15 days of TLA will be authorized, with extensions case by case. No daily rate is printed.

3. Schools

The housing page names four DoDEA schools: Yokota West Elementary, Joan K. Mendel Elementary, Yokota Middle School, and Yokota High School. It does not print a tuition figure.

1. Report within two business days, before you sign anything off base.
2. Ask whether an adequate on-base unit is available. Off-base OHA is not the default on this housing page.
3. Confirm the locality with the housing office. Compare the lease with your pay grade in the rates table. Check current rate on the DTMO OHA Rate Lookup if the pay period has changed.
4. Do not ship full-size U.S. kitchen appliances.
